Bush Babies Downunder was started 20 years ago by award winning watercolour artist Lesley Davies. Inspired by the Australian bush where she lived and all the wonderful creatures in it, Lesley created a range of prints, cards, mugs, baby wear, wall stickers and more.

Fast forward 20 years and Lesley now wants to concentrate on her love of painting and has therefore passed the business over to her two daughters, Kylie and Sharyn – that’s me!

We are excited to re-launch Bush Babies Downunder, and run it together with our other business: ELLIE BLUE DESIGNS.

All of our Bush Babies products are proudly Australian designed and made, and are exclusively sold by us, or our chosen distributors.

More about Lesley Davies.

What made you want to become an artist? I have always wanted to be an Artist, and as a child I used to draw all the time, for me it was my escape from an unhappy childhood.

What inspires you? Many things. All the beauty of nature – birds, animals & plants. I also love fantasy – Fairies, Castles, big knotty trees that make you think and use your imagination. They just look like fairies would live in them. It’s a nicer world than this one. Make-believe is womderful, and I really enjoy painting those things.

Are there any artists whose work inspires your own work? There are many that inspire me not really any one in particular.

What is your preferred style? I am very traditional, I love drawing, and lots of detail. The media I prefer is watercolours.

What advice would you give to people wanting a career as an Artist? 100% Go for it !! As they say, if you love what you do you will never work a day in your life.
