All of our large wall stickers are rolled up and packaged in cardboard tubes, so as to avoid any damage during posting.

The echidna, also known as the spiny anteater, is a fascinating and unique animal that belongs to the family Tachyglossidae. Along with the platypus, echidnas are the only surviving members of the monotreme order, which means they are egg-laying mammals.

Here are some key features and facts about echidnas:

1. Appearance: Echidnas have a distinctive appearance characterized by their spiny, coarse hair and elongated snout. They are covered in spines, which are modified hairs, and these spines provide them with protection against predators.
2. Distribution: Echidnas are native to Australia and New Guinea. There are three species of echidnas: the Short-beaked Echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus), found in Australia and southern New Guinea, the Western Long-beaked Echidna (Zaglossus bruijni), found in western New Guinea, and the Sir David's Long-beaked Echidna (Zaglossus attenboroughi), also found in New Guinea.
3. Behaviour: Echidnas are solitary creatures and are primarily nocturnal, meaning they are most active during the night. They are skilled diggers and spend a lot of their time burrowing in search of food and creating shelter.
4. Diet: Echidnas are insectivores, and their main diet consists of ants and termites. Using their long, sticky tongue, they can capture their prey efficiently, and their beaks help break open termite mounds and ant nests.
5. Reproduction: One of the most intriguing aspects of echidnas is their unique reproductive system. Female echidnas lay eggs, which are then incubated in a pouch-like structure, similar to marsupials. After hatching, the baby echidna, known as a puggle, continues to develop in the pouch until it becomes large enough to emerge.
6. Threats and Conservation: While echidnas are not considered endangered, they face some threats, including habitat loss and road accidents. Due to their solitary and elusive nature, studying echidnas in the wild can be challenging, making their conservation status less well-known compared to other more visible species.
